Talc Lays the Foundation; Specialty Paper Looks to the Future! From May 20–22, the 2026 Seminar on Industry Information and Market Trends for Specialty Paper was grandly held—and successfully concluded—in Haicheng, Liaoning Province, hailed as the “Talc Capital of China.” Jointly organized by the Specialty Paper Committee of the China Pulp and Paper Society, China Pulp and Paper Research Institute Co., Ltd., and the Paper Industry Productivity Promotion Center, and co-organized by Liaoning Xinda Talc Group Co., Ltd., this seminar focused on industrial transformation, technological innovation, and market trends, bringing together industry leaders to jointly deliberate on development strategies and inject new impetus into the high-quality growth of the specialty paper industry.

Globally, the specialty paper industry is undergoing accelerated structural realignment, with green, low-carbon transformation advancing steadily. The sector stands at a critical juncture of upgrading, transformation, quality improvement, and efficiency enhancement. By selecting Haicheng—renowned for its exceptional talc resource endowment—as the venue, this seminar established a high-level platform for policy interpretation, technical exchange, and supply-demand matching. It attracted representatives from specialty paper enterprises, research institutes, and upstream and downstream industrial chain partners across China. Centered on the theme of “focusing on industrial trends, jointly exploring innovative pathways, and empowering green development,” participants discussed industry opportunities, addressed developmental challenges, and jointly charted a new blueprint for the specialty paper industry.

Six leading industry experts took the stage in turn, delivering forward-looking perspectives and in-depth insights from multiple dimensions—including policy, international markets, practical applications, and supporting resources—resulting in an information-rich, intellectually vibrant event.  

Yin Xunfei (China Academy of Information and Communications Technology): Interpreted policy directions for advanced manufacturing and analyzed trends in industrial upgrading, providing authoritative guidance to help the specialty paper industry identify policy opportunities and clarify strategic development directions.  

Dr. Zou Xuejun (Shandong Huatai Group): Analyzed business models and market dynamics of pulp and paper enterprises in North America, offering valuable references for domestic enterprises seeking to benchmark against international peers and expand into overseas markets.  

Wang Hong (Heilongjiang Jile Agricultural Science & Technology Co., Ltd.): Shared practical experience in promoting rice-field mulch paper, illustrating through real-world cases the innovative applications and broad prospects of specialty paper in agriculture.  

Prof. Liu Wen (China Pulp and Paper Research Institute): Focused on technological developments and market dynamics in Japan’s specialty paper industry, elucidating cutting-edge international practices and experiences to support domestic technological upgrading.  

Li Zheng (China Pulp and Paper Research Institute): Conducted an in-depth analysis of the current status, technological advantages, and market demands of the specialty paper industry in Europe and North America, providing reference points for the industry’s internationalization strategy.  

Yu Xiangmin (Liaoning Xinda Talc Group Co., Ltd.): Interpreted the current status, resource advantages, and future trends of China’s talc industry, clarified the core value of talc powder in specialty paper production, and provided resource support for the industry’s green, low-carbon development.

III. On-Site Observation: Unlocking Empowerment Secrets

On the morning of May 22, participants visited Liaoning Xinda Talc Group Co., Ltd. for an on-site inspection. As a leading enterprise in China’s talc industry, Xinda Talc commands high-quality mining resources with reserves exceeding ten million tons and has long specialized in deep processing of talc.

Its products are widely applied across industries including papermaking, coatings, and plastics. Participants toured the mining base, intelligent production workshop, R&D center, and product exhibition hall, gaining firsthand insight into the entire process—from talc mining and precision processing to quality testing—and deepening their understanding of talc powder’s critical role in specialty paper manufacturing: enhancing paper performance, reducing production costs, and supporting green production. This field visit provided participants with a more intuitive and comprehensive appreciation of the deep integration between talc resources and the specialty paper industry, laying a solid foundation for future collaborative efforts across the industrial chain.  

IV. Building Consensus, Embarking on a New Journey  

The three-day symposium served not only as a vibrant platform for intellectual exchange but also as a pivotal gathering to build consensus and jointly chart a path forward for development. Centered on the high-end, intelligent, and green development directions of the specialty paper industry, the symposium conducted in-depth discussions on key topics—including technological innovation, market expansion, and resource security—reaching multiple industry-wide agreements. Looking ahead, the industry will leverage this symposium as a catalyst to strengthen collaboration among academia, research institutions, and enterprises; deepen cooperation across upstream and downstream segments of the industrial chain; and capitalize on high-quality resources such as talc to overcome technological bottlenecks, optimize product portfolios, and broaden application scenarios—seizing opportunities and advancing steadily amid the green, low-carbon transformation wave.
